A Brief History of Pine Tar

The use of pine tar as a skin conditioning and healing agent goes way back over a hundred years.  It's use likely coincided with the old practice of building large wooden ships.  Pine tar was exclusively used as a wood sealant and waterproofing agent.  Shipbuilders found that the pine tar helped heal their calloused and cracked skin, along with other skin ailments such as eczema and psoriasis.  Before long the shipbuilders wives started adding pine tar to their homemade soaps and salves. This is what makes our soap so good. Really Good Soap!

I often get questions on what makes our soap so sudsy and creamy.  It is because we only use wholesome, natural ingredients and never any harsh commercial additives which attempt to replicate the natural suds that our homemade soap has.The base for all of our soaps (except our shaving soap and lard soap) is simply extra virgin olive oil and coconut oil.  To that we add, depending upon the soap, either pine tar, tea tree oil, lemongrass oil, jojoba oil, or coffee grounds (for our exfoliating coffee soap).Our shaving soap uses coconut oil, castor oil, cocoa butter, and shea butter.What...
